Often this shape is also referred to as an ‘Elongated Hexagon’ but unfortunately this NOT the correct name for this shape (because an elongated Hexagon is different shape altogether!).

The Honeycomb is characterised by right angles (90 ˚) in 2 of the opposing points of the shape. The length of all edges is the same. Honeycombs were a shape rarely seen in Quilts, but the shape has enjoyed resurgence in recent years through the huge popularity of the ‘Patchwork Of The Crosses’ (POTC) quilt by Lucy Boston. But a word of warning about playing with Honeycombs: The pattern possibilities are endless and it can become very addictive!

Please be aware that we measure the size of our Honeycomb shapes by the length of the edge (as indicated in the diagram). This makes it easy to find the correct size for coordinating pattern shapes. For example: 1 inch Honeycombs will fit 1 inch squares.
