Come and learn about the 350 year history of women’s petticoats and pockets. Learn to sew a pocket using 18th century hand sewing techniques.

Pockets were not attached to women’s clothes until the 20th century. Before that they were worn as a separate item, usually on a tape around the waist and were the precursor to a modern handbag. We will make a pocket and look at how historic petticoats were made. We will try out the sewing skills of the 18th century and learn some of their methods.
